Project Development

Export cable development, route engineering, consenting and procurement.

In March 2026, Soltech completed a 5 year assignment which focussed on the Development of the Mona and Morgan Projects.  This involved the evaluation of multiple Subsea Export Cable landing sites on the North Coast of Wales and the West Coast of England.  Input on these landing Sites was fed to the project consents development teams and the documentation developed was used to obtain DCO approval for these projects, including the development of agreements for seabed leases with the Crown Estates.

Multiple nearshore seabed and landing point surveys were undertaken to characterise the issues associated with multiple cable landings, that needed to be coordinated with other seabed users in the vicinity of the agreed landing points.  Soltech managed the route engineering and seabed mobility studies necessary to define agreed cable routes, including cable burial assessment studies, and to optimise the Contractor solutions for cable burial.  Due to the challenges involved in the landing sites and export cable routes, it was necessary to hold discussions with both contractors and tool developers, in order to ensure that the right equipment for the Projects could be made available in the construction timeline.

Soltech personnel lead the export cable rating studies and procurement of 275kV Export cable Supply contracts and the tendering and negotiation of Export Cable Installation Services for both projects.
